The Option of an Alternate Payment Plan
If your insurance doesn't cover in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures, what do you do? Some centers offer alternate payment plans.
In some plans, the patient pays a fee for the IVF treatment. If the patient achieves pregnancy or delivery, the specialist keeps the fee. However, if the treatment isn't successful, either all or a large percentage of the fee is refunded.
Many patients have found these alternate payment plans to be a good option for them. Even though the fee is sometimes higher with these types of payment plans, patients may find it's worth it if the procedure is successful.
If you'd like to learn more about a center's alternate payment plans, it can be helpful to get all the facts about the fees, and what is and isn't covered. For example, some plans don't cover fertility medications while others do. It can also be beneficial to learn how many cycles are covered and how success is defined. With this information in hand, you can make a more informed decision whether or not this type of plan is right for you.
