In the Know: What No One Tells You About Fertility

The In the Know: What No One Tells You About Fertility booklet was created to give you a no-nonsense, easy-to-understand glimpse of various issues surrounding infertility and provide you with the tools and resources to help you along your journey to parenthood. This booklet was also designed to give you hope — your original plan to start a family was, and is, a good one. You may have reached a small detour on your quest, but the destination can be well worth the journey.

A recent survey co-sponsored by Fertility LifeLines™ and Conceive Magazine found that about half of the women who responded felt that the available information on infertility is sufficient:

  • 23 percent felt there wasn't enough information on emotional issues
  • 22 percent needed additional information on dealing with stress
  • 22 percent wanted more male-oriented information

The 48-page girlfriend-to-girlfriend booklet was created to address this gap in the current resources available to couples seeking information about infertility. The booklet covers the broad range of issues that couples face when struggling with infertility, including a description of infertility in males and females, how to cope with the emotional stresses of infertility, an overview of the treatments that are available and resources that can provide couples with information to navigate the costs of treatment.

714 women answered a survey about their experience with fertility concerns over a 5 week time period from 12/21/07 to 01/25/08. The average age of the women surveyed was 35 years old. The survey was posted on the Survey Monkey website and distributed to over 6,300 women.

85-90% of couples that have difficulty conceiving are treated with conventional therapies such as oral medication and surgery.*
